Afterword was created around that idea.
Afterword began in November, at a table, with a bead board and a lot of small bags of stones. There was no plan for a brand at that point — only the pleasure of making something with your hands and then watching somebody actually wear it.
The first bracelets went to friends. Then to friends of friends. Then to people who had simply seen one on somebody's wrist and asked where it came from. Every one of them was strung individually, and that has not changed since.
What became clear quickly was that people were not choosing by stone. They were choosing by feeling. Someone would pick up the black onyx and say this one feels like the calm one. Someone else would go straight to the carnelian because they wanted something that felt like starting.
So that became the whole organising idea. Twelve pieces, twelve feelings — each built around the meaning traditionally associated with its stone, and made to be a small reminder of the thing you are working on.
Afterword is still made the same way it started: by hand, one at a time, in India. It is a small operation and it is meant to stay one. The point was never scale. The point was that somebody made this, and now somebody is wearing it.
Every piece is strung individually, never in a factory run. No two are quite identical, and that is the point.
Each piece carries the idea traditionally associated with its stone. It is the story behind the piece — a reminder you can wear — not a medical or scientific claim.
Every piece is made to order in your wrist size, 6" to 8" — not shipped as one standard size. You pick your size; we string it to fit.
